Speech at league congress inspires younger generation across nation
Youths remain in high spirits and are inspired by the speech that Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, delivered on behalf of the CPC Central Committee at the opening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Youth League of China on Monday.
President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the opening ceremony of the congress held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Li Xi, who are all members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the ceremony.
In the speech, Cai called on the youth of the nation to shoulder responsibilities with stronger belief and grow to be good, having dreams and a sense of responsibility in the new era.
Yuan Li, secretary of the youth league committee of Beidahuang Group — an agricultural company in Harbin, capital of the northeast province of Heilongjiang — said that she felt very excited and inspired listening to the speech on-site. She also felt a greater sense of responsibility, and will encourage more youths to contribute in the sectors of rural vitalization and modern agriculture development.
Delegates to the congress said that CYLC cadres should take on greater responsibilities in winning youths' hearts and support, and in uniting their strengths and wisdom. In the speech, Party committees of all levels were urged to focus on the operation of youth leagues nationwide and help solve their problems. Party committees at all levels should also be strict with CYLC cadres while caring for them warmly to make them more confident and recognize that their own work is glorious.
Cai Wenming, secretary of the youth league committee of China Railway Beijing Group Co, said that he will keep in mind the requirements of honesty, self-discipline and being loyal to the CPC.
Ling Taiyang, a student from the School of Information Science and Engineering of the Southeast University in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, said that strong youths make a strong nation and the speech shows the importance and care the CPC Central Committee has attached to the youth.
"As a young student majoring in science and technology, I will be adventurous and down-to-earth and master skills and show a good performance in basic academic research," he said.
The 19th National Congress of the Communist Youth League of China will run until Thursday. It is being attended by nearly 1,500 delegates from across the country, representing the more than 73 million Communist Youth League members aged 14 to 28.
